Young vie for love at any cost

How far would you go to woo that pretty girl in college? A gang busted recently by the Delhi Police stole bikes to take their girlfriends for joyrides before selling off the vehicles to buy them costly gifts. Many youngsters agree that while wooing girls, ideals like logic and rationale often go for a toss.

For Aseem Sachdeva, 19, impressing his lady love has always been a priority. From buying the most expensive gifts to special outings, he plans it all. While Aseem is lucky to have his NRI sisters financing him, his friend Rishab (name changed) is not as lucky. “We were shocked when he told us that he stole money from his parents to buy a gift for his girlfriend,” says Aseem. “And when we all expressed our anger, he plainly asked, ‘What else was I supposed to do?’,” adds Aseem.
“Does anyone agree with the McDonalds ad, where a boy takes out his girlfriend on a burger treat? Sadly, no one. “Why would a hottie want to hang out with a loser who has nothing to gift her,” asks Sahib Malik, a student. “I know people who not only steal stuff from home to meet their expenses, but also do shady stuffy to take care of their girlfriends,” he adds.
Aseem believes it’s only money that can buy you love. “You need to flaunt a high-tech lifestyle only if you aren’t sure of the person you are in love with. She may expect nice gifts, but not ones obtained by wrongful means. I don’t get the point of wearing designer brands and expensive cellphones and bikes only to impress girls. One needs to be realistic when getting into a relationship,” he says on a serious note.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
