Youngsters join hands to help flood victims
The Uttarakhand tragedy that has hit the nation has disturbed the local life in the surrounding regions, however people across the country have joined hands to bring the disturbed rhythm back to normal. In the capital, a bunch of youngsters from different walks of life are also doing their bit to show their support to the flood victims.
Recently, in a flood relief event organised at Hauz Khas Village, many youngsters from the city gathered to collect essentials for donations. Gargi Banerji, director at Pragya NGO, mentions, “Our team galvanised about a hundred young people across companies, schools and colleges across the NCR and other metros to collect relief material for the flood-affected region. Several young people also ran campaigns and collection drives in their localities and institutions to gather a large amount of relief material like blankets, food, hygiene kits and medicines.”
Young volunteers also came in to help in packing, loading and coordinating the truck movement. She adds, “The response from the NCR and other towns and cities in India has been tremendous. In a crisis we can see young India coming together across all barriers, stretching out to help. Following this would be the long road to rebuilding the lives and livelihoods of the local communities.”
