For your eyes only

Runways across the world are bursting with dynamic eye shadow colours such as fuchsia, orange, peacock blue, deep purple and wild green. Says model Radhika Nair, “At a recent Bibi Russell show, I wore eye shadows in yellow and orange, and a lipstick to match. It looked wild alright, but was loved and appreciated. The best part about being young is that you can sport these crazy shades unflinchingly.” She adds, “The smokey look is my favourite, when I am partying. I go with a lovely purple for my eyes. It matches my almost dusky skin beautifully!”
If matching eye shadow and lip colour is a bit much for you, there are ways to show off bright hues with a touch of subtlety. Says celebrity make-up expert Siddharth Hiremath, “It’s time to unleash your inner goddess with red, crushed crimson or bold vermilion for the lips. Bambi eyes are calling! Pink, orange, plums, purples; anything shimmery is fabulous for the eyes. Use tons of mascara to boot. But, if the eyes are going to be heavily made up, keep your lips a nude colour and use lots of gloss. If your eyes have a neutral eye shadow, then go overboard with the lips. Keep the skin luminous with sculpting blushers.”
He adds, “These shades go extremely well with Indian ethnic wear, as funky as that sounds, and are perfect to sport at a wedding.”
Don’t be afraid to mix and match colours. Two’s company even with the eye shadow. Says make-up expert Gouri Kapur, “For the eyes, purple and red are a great combination. The other winning combinations are red-gold, green-red, orange-pink and orange-purple. These are ideal for evening dos.” She adds, “Bright peachy orange, pink in various hues and purples go well for eyes and lips. To keep it subtle, opt for eyeliners in sea green, blue, purple and blue. Wear mascara and a nude eye shadow. The other look for the day is, to keep eyes nude and wear bright colour with a frosted lip shade or a lighter shade of lip gloss.” It’s all about drama this season. So splash yourself with these vibrant hues and expose your colourful side.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
