Youth blend rock music with spirituality
If you thought that today’s youth aren’t spiritually inclined, you certainly haven’t heard of Gauranga, the four-member rock band, who blend their music with a generous dose of spirituality.
Clad in traditional dhoti-kurta, the youngsters sing self-composed songs, particularly in the praise of Lord Krishna.
Gauranga recently performed in the capital at ISKCON temple, Punjabi Bagh, taking the audiences through a meditative journey with their foot-tapping music.
“I feel the bliss while singing the Lord’s name and love it when I share it with others on the stage,” says 23-year-old Prateek Bhatia, the lead vocalist, who’s an MBA.
The band’s name is inspired by the incarnation of dancing God — Gauranga, also known as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who, with His spiritual prowess led the dancing-singing movement during the 15th century in Bengal and later in southern parts of India. “I don’t need any intoxicants to stay high, these timeless hymns are far more enchanting,” says the band’s bassist Mohit, who’s an electronic engineer by profession.
Sonu, on rhythm, has been instrumental in composing some songs for the band, while band member, Sankalp is good with drums and percussion.
