Zangoora prince loved CWG act
Audiences were treated to a pleasant surprise during the opening ceremony of the CWG when actor Hussain Kuwajerwala entered the arena atop a train engine a la Shah Rukh Khan to the beats of “chaiya chaiya”. Hussain is ecstatic about the response his act has received; especially since this is the first time he’s performed live in front of such a large audience. “The journey has simply been wonderful,” says Hussain. “It was an honour to perform in front of a packed stadium of 65, 000 people.”
Hussain’s act was part of the “Great Indian Journey” segment presented by the Indian Railways, and he reveals, “The train was really wobbly and so it was difficult to perform on top of it. Amar Kumar designed the entire set.”
The actor had incidentally shifted base to the capital since he is performing in India’s first Broadway-type musical, Zangoora, choreographed by Shiamak Davar. Hussain admits that juggling rehearsals for the CWG and Zangoora has been tough. “It was hectic for me because I was rehearsing back-to-back for both of them. But Shiamak made it easier by rehearsing with us all the time. We just didn’t realise how much of our time was spent in rehearsals,” he marvels.
Incidentally, Hussain’s SRK connection extended to Zangoora as well. The superstar has become the brand ambassador for the musical, which also stars Isha Sharvani and Gauhar Khan.
For all the ease with which he dances, Hussain says becoming a dancer was never part of his game plan. But acting has now taken a backseat. “I am happy doing what I am,” he says. “It has been a great learning process so I don’t think I will go back to television for a while.”
