Archana is Parmeet’s foolproof sounding board
With Badmaash Company ready to release, debutante director Parmeet Sethi says he has a foolproof method of determining if his work is any good. He simply bounces his ideas off wife Archana Puransingh. “If Archana reacts positively, I know that I have a well-written script,” says Parmeet.
The director reveals that he wrote the script for Badmaash Company in six days. “When I gave a bound script to Aditya Chopra, he couldn’t believe it. He didn’t react. But once he read the entire script, he called me and said that he would love to do this film. I was amazed. I couldn’t believe it. The world stopped spinning — here I was, getting the biggest break of my life,” he says.
The transition from actor to writer-director happened when Archana and Parmeet were short of scripts for their home production Archana Talkies. “We were without a script and Archana was almost in tears. I went into my study and started writing. I wrote for almost three hours. When I gave it to Archana, she was in splits. She said I had written the most brilliant script ever,” recounts Parmeet.
Parmeet adds, “I had written a few serials after that, but as a responsible father and husband who has a house to run, I took up acting. But my first love was direction. I’ve dabbled in all aspects of filmmaking, including editing, mixing and sound recording before turning director.”
