1 held for duping shop of `36 lakh
The LT Marg police has arrested a jeweller for allegedly duping a jewellery firm to the tune of `36 lakh. The accused had taken the gold jewellery from complainant’s company on the pretext of selling it to his relatives. However, he did not return the money to complainant in stipulated time.
The accused also started avoiding the complainant’s phone calls, who later approached the police. The police has also arrested the jeweller who purchased ornaments from the accused. The police is yet to recover the gold ornaments.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ritesh Kamlesh Gauda and Manish Prakash Jain. According to the police, two jeweller brothers Pravin Jain and Navin Jain have a shop called MU Jewellers in south Mumbai. Gauda was known to the brothers and was dealing with them for the past five years.
Sources said that in January this year, Gauda had taken jewellery worth `36 lakh. “The accused stopped taking calls made by the brothers. Therefore, Pravin from MU Jewellers lodged an offence against Gauda with us,” said a police official.

‘Aviation to touch new high’
Nagpur, April 14: The open air policy of the government has helped achieve higher growth in the aviation sector and the country is going to be the second largest air traffic market in the world, aviation minister Ajit Singh said on Sunday. Stating that the domestic carriers flew close to 162 million passengers in 2011-12, up from 143 million in 2010-11, he called for more investments in the aviation infra sector, especially from private sector and hinted that the government may hand over the operations and management of the Kolkata and Chennai airports to private parties in a PPP model. Mr Singh was in the city to unveil a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar at the international airport named after him in the presence of chief minister Prithiviraj Chavan and a host of ministers. Quoting Iata data, Mr Singh said that the country will be second largest air passenger traffic market in the world within a decade. He also said within the same time, the number of international air passengers entering the country will be 84 million, while the domestic passengers will jump to 336 million. On launching more international flights from Nagpur, Mr Singh said soon the city would be linked with some more cities besides Sharjah.
