1 held for duping shop of `36 lakh

The LT Marg police has arrested a jeweller for allegedly duping a jewellery firm to the tune of `36 lakh. The accused had taken the gold jewellery from complainant’s company on the pretext of selling it to his relatives. However, he did not return the money to complainant in stipulated time.
The accused also started avoiding the complainant’s phone calls, who later approached the police. The police has also arrested the jeweller who purchased ornaments from the accused. The police is yet to recover the gold ornaments.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ritesh Kamlesh Gauda and Manish Prakash Jain. According to the police, two jeweller brothers Pravin Jain and Navin Jain have a shop called MU Jewellers in south Mumbai. Gauda was known to the brothers and was dealing with them for the past five years.
Sources said that in January this year, Gauda had taken jewellery worth `36 lakh. “The accused stopped taking calls made by the brothers. Therefore, Pravin from MU Jewellers lodged an offence against Gauda with us,” said a police official.
