1 killed, 35 hurt after speeding bus overturns
A two-year-old son of a city businessman from Mumbai was killed and 35 persons were injured after an overspeeding tourist bus of the famous Sahara Travels moving from Karnataka towards Mumbai turned turtle on the National Highway in the Osmanabad district in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident took place at around 1 am in Naldurg village near Naldurg fort on NH 9. The bus had set off from Bidar in Karnataka. “The accident took place at a steep curve. The driver was over speeding while taking the steep turn due to which one of the wheels slipped off the road and the bus lost its balance and turned turtle,” said investigating officer, sub inspector M.N. Shaikh. Mr Shaikh said, “The passengers suspect that the driver Mustaq Ahmed (40) had consumed alcohol at a dhaba. When the passengers asked him to drive slowly, he shouted back.” “We took his blood samples and booked him for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Normally, we book accused for death due to negligence, but in this case the driver had the knowledge that an accident could take place,” he added.
