12 lose a year after IDOL delays results
While thousands of students of the University of Mumbai have to put up with delays in declaration of results and more delays in getting the revaluation results, 12 students of the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) are now begging the University to help them save a year.
The students pursuing MSc-IT have been left in the lurch, even after they managed to clear all their exams after revaluation and ATKT, as they were denied admission to the next semester as the date of admissions had passed.
According to one of the students, Aditya Rane, they will be losing a crucial academic year due to the negligence of the university administration. The 12 students of the IDOL had appeared for their fourth semester exams as well as the third semester ATKT in May 2011.
However, when the results were declared in September, many of them had failed in more than two subjects in both the semesters. The students who failed in two subjects in the third semester applied for revaluation, and the result of which declared in November showed that they had passed in the said papers.
“We appeared for the fourth semester ATKT exams in November, and though we were eligible for admission to the fifth semester, we waited for the fourth semester exams to get over. However, when we approached the IDOL for admission for the fifth semester in December, we were told that the admission dates had passed and we could not be accommodated,” said Vikas Kordekar, another student.
Meanwhile, IDOL director Dr D. Harichandan said, “It is unfortunate that the students have suffered. I will look into the issue and see how the students can be accommodated.”
