13-yr-old girl from raigad molested in city
The VP Road police has arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl. The victim is originally from the Raigad district and had come to her uncle’s place in Girgaum to spend her holidays.
The arrested accused has been identified as Anant Babu Bendkar, a driver by profession, who lives with his family in the servant quarters of a building located in the Girgaum area. According to the police, the victim, Supria (changed name), hails from Pandhare village of Mhasala Taluka in Raigad and had come to stay at her uncle’s place, which is located in Bendkar’s neighborhood.
Recently, the victim, along with her uncle’s family, had gone to the terrace of their building to sleep in the night. “At around 2 am, while Supriya was asleep, Bendkar went to the terrace and slept beside her. He touched her inappropriately, following which she woke up. He grabbed her and said that he liked her very much,” said an officer of the V P Road police station.
A sobbing Supriya somehow managed to free herself from him, woke up her uncle and narrated the entire incident. Meanwhile, Bendkar managed to run way. The victim’s uncle took her to the VP Road police the next morning, and registered an offence against Bendkar under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word,
gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and Section 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was arrested from the Andheri railway station following a tip-off.
