1st Metro trial run in December
The trial run for the first Metro rail is likely to take place by December this year after getting delayed due to the airport station mishap. However, due to the missing link at Andheri, it would not be possible to conduct the trial run on the entire corridor. The Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd is likely to take a decision on the missing link on Monday.
“The trials of the metro rail is likely to start by December 2012,” said a spokesperson of the MMOPL, the consortium building Mumbai’s first metro rail between Versova–Andheri–Ghatkopar.
Earlier, the MMRDA had planned to hold trials in September. But after the accident at the airport station on September 4, trials had to be rescheduled.
Sources from the MMRDA confirmed that even though the trials would be held in December, the metro run on the entire 11 km long corridor wouldn’t be possible as a viaduct is yet to be placed over the Andheri railway tracks.
In addition to this, a certain section of a mosque outside the station needs to be demolished for the completion of work.
“The issue has almost been sorted out with people associated with the mosque. A meeting with the MMOPL officials is scheduled for Monday,” added the official.
