2 constables hit by speeding car
Two police constables were injured in a rash driving accident on the JJ flyover on Monday afternoon.
The police said that the incident occurred at around 12.15 pm on Monday on the JJ Flyover in south Mumbai. Police constables Nagesh Shambhu and Vijay Chavan, both posted with the DB Marg police, were on their way towards CST when a Honda City that was trying to overtake them hit their motorcycle, throwing both of them off the vehicle.
“The driver of the car, Rashid Khan, stepped out to help the constables. In a few minutes, another police vehicle, that was passing by, stopped at the scene and both constables as well as Khan were taken to the JJ Hospital. Khan was subjected to medical tests. He then left without checking with the policemen and reached the office of his employer Nakul Bubna, but didn’t even inform him about the accident,” said Pascal D’souza, senior police inspector, Pydhonie police. However, the policemen at the scene had taken some documents of the car into their possession, and flashed its licence plate number to the control room. The Azad Maidan police later saw the car parked outside the offices of Bubna Marketing Services and Khan was taken into custody.
“Khan was placed under arrest and the Pydhonie police was informed. Shambhu and Chavan were shifted to the Bombay Hospital. Shambhu is seriously injured and unconscious,” said Deepak Dhole, senior police inspector, Azad Maidan police.
The traffic police has, however, also taken cognisance that the two cops were riding helmetless.
