2 held in deonar poultry van driver murder

The Deonar police on Friday cracked the murder case of poultry van driver Barsatilal Verma (36) following the arrest of two persons, one of whom is already a repeat offender. Verma was stabbed to dea-th, while his cleaner, Anil Kanojiya (20), was injured when two motorcycle-bor-ne accused stopped their van and mugged them of their valuables in the early hours of Wednesday.
The police first arrested Mohammed Jaffer Maqbool Khan (21) from Mankhurd who led them to Mohammed Riyazuddin Khan (25). The accused had stolen the cellphones of both the victims, after which the police tried tracing them through their IMEI identification codes. “Four teams were formed on the direction of additional commissioner Quaiser Khalid. One of the accused, Mohammed Jaffer had started using Kanojiya’s cellphone with a different SIM card. We received a trace on the cellphone and a team was sent out for a combing operation and Jaffer was caught from a dumping ground near Mankhurd on Friday afternoon,” said police inspector Pandit Thakre.
Jaffer was grilled when he revealed Riyaz’s location near Govandi. He too, was then taken into custody. Senior police inspector Pralhad Panaskar said, “Mohammed Riyaz has been figured in around 11 cases of house break-ins, body offences and attempt to murder at Shivaji Nagar, Dadar and Mumbra police stations. He was also externed by the Shivaji Nagar police station in January.” The Deonar police has booked the two for murder, robbery and criminal intimidation under the IPC.
The two will be produced in court on Saturday where the police will ask for their custody. “We will investigate if they were also involved in the recent crimes including the daylight robberies at Pant Nagar and Ghatkopar,” added Mr Thakre.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
