2-yr-old found stuffed in bag
The Thane police has initiated investigations into the murder of a two-year-old-girl, who was allegedly choked to death, stuffed inside a duffel bag and thrown from a running train near Thane on Thursday.
According to the Thane Nagar police, the bag was reported to the police control room after some passersby spotted it at the banks of the creek under the railway bridge on Thursday evening. The passersby found it suspicious and informed the police, after which a team was rushed to the spot. Once the police made sure that the bag did not contain explosive, it was opened and the girl’s body, wearing a black and yellow frock, was found. It was taken to the Thane Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
“Based on the position of the bag, we believe that it was thrown off a moving train while it was passing over the bridge. It would be impossible for anyone to go on foot till that spot without being spotted. Post-mortem reports
indicate murder by suffocation. There are neither external injuries on the body nor ligature marks around the throat,” said Hemant Sawant, police inspector, Thane Nagar police station, adding that post-mortem examination has ruled out any sexual abuse.
The police has circulated the girl’s description to all police stations in Thane and Mumbai and requested information about any girl fitting it going missing over the last few days. Identifying the girl is currently the priority, the police said.
“Once we identify the girl, we can trace her parents and subsequently identify potential suspects and possible motives for her murder. No one has come forward to claim the body yet,” Mr Sawant added.
