It is good news for local train passengers from Thane as the Central Railway has decided to run 22 additional shuttle train services between Thane and Karjat and Kasara from March 28.
The Central Railway has claimed that the introduction of the shuttle services will create additional capacity for almost 77,000 passengers daily. The total suburban services that run daily in the Mumbai area will increase from 1,596 to 1,618 and the total number of suburban services on the main line will increase from 803 to 825. The introduction of the new service was a long pending demand from passengers.
Apart from the new service, the Central Railway has also decided to convert all 12-car trains, running from CST to Kalyan via Dadar, into 15-car trains from April 15. With the induction of 10 more 15-car trains in April, the total number of 15-car services on the Central line will increase from 16 to 26.
Addressing a press conference, chief PRO of Central Railways Vidyadhar Malegaonkar said. “Provisioning for these services were announced in this year’s budget and we are happy to fulfill it,” and added, “The plan for running fast trains beyond Kalyan has been dropped as it was not found to be popular among passengers.”
