22-year-old jumps off 25th floor, dies
A 22-year-old youngster, working as a milkman, ended his life by jumping off the 25th floor of a highrise in Goregaon (west) early morning on Tuesday.
He did not leave behind a suicide note, but had attempted suicide just a day before, and constantly told friends that he is under a lot of tension.
According to the Goregaon police, the incident took place at around 6.30 am in Tulsi Tower behind City Centre shopping mall on the MG Road.
The deceased Bhagwantilal Purohit was living on rent with a roommate in Siddharth Nagar area. He was recently engaged and was economically stable. On Sunday, Purohit had climbed on the roof of his house and tried to jump off in a bid to end his life. “But Purohit’s friends somehow convinced him to calm down and foiled the attempt. Purohit kept telling them that he does not want to live anymore and is under severe tension. There is no difference between life and death, he had said. However, Purohit never revealed why he was stressed,” said an investigating official, on condition of anonymity. In the CCTV grab, obtained from the 27-storeyed building, Purohit is seen taking the lift to reach the 25th floor. He had gone there to supply a milk packet to a customer and suddenly jumped off, added the official.
Purohit is originally from Rajasthan and had recently got engaged. His parents live in Rajasthan, while his two elder brothers live separately in Mumbai.
Assistant inspector, Mahesh Ingale said, “We have ruled out foul play and registered a case of suicide. We are investigating to find out why he took the extreme step.”
