3 passengers hurt in OHE mishap
Barely 10 days into the collision of two trains at Andheri, three passengers onboard a CST bound-local train were injured when some parts of a pantograph and the overhead-equipment of a train coming from the opposite direction broke and hit them at the Vangani Station on Tuesday morning.
Sources said that the incident might have occurred due to dereliction of duty by personnel in-charge of the OHE on the stretch of the mishap.
A senior CR official said, “OHE work was being carried out for the conversion of traction from direct current to alternate current at Vangani last night. The people doing that
work may have left it incomplete. When the Karjat-bound local was passing through, the pantograph of the local got entangled with the OHE. The pantograph and the OHE came crashing down when the CST-bound train was passing by in the opposite direction. The equipment hit three passengers who were travelling on the footboard of the CST-bound local at around 8.21 am.” The victims were rushed to a hospital in Badlapur and later to Fortis Hospital in Mulund.
Vilas Duttu (27), a victim, who sustained a fracture in his right leg, is recuperating at Fortis Hospital. Ananta Karale (20), who sustained an injury on his scalp and Abdul Rahim Dastagir (23), who sustained bruises and an abrasion on his legs have been discharged.
CR general manager Subodh Jain rushed to the spot and announced a compensation of `5,000 each over and above the cost of treatment.
