36 MGM hospital staff unpaid for last 4 months
Over 36 paramedical staff at MGM Hospital in Parel have not received their salary for the last four months. Further, the staffers have alleged that they are not being allowed to work at the hospital since the last one month.
Employee State Insurance Corporation’s (ESIC’s) MGM Hospital had recruited 36 staffers on an emergency basis in July 2012.
The staffers were paid their first salary in March this year. However, their salaries were stopped after December. “We were recruited as the hospital needed to meet a particular requirement in order to qualify as a medical college. However, on April 1, staffers from within the hospital came in a mob and ushered us out of our departments. They also warned us against working again,” said one of the 36 staffers.
According to sources from within the hospital, there is no budgetary head to process their salary, as the staff was recruited by the Centre.
The hospital comes under the tripartite ownership of the state, the Centre and the ESIC.
When contacted, the hospital and ESIC authorities said that they are in touch with the state on this issue and the matter would be resolved soon.
