4 held for gangraping sex worker
A 23-year-old sex worker was allegedly gangraped at a chawl area on Sahar Road in Andheri (east) in the early hours of Thursday.
The Vile Parle police, which is investigating the case, arrested all the four accused and got their custody till March 20, from the magistrate’s court later in the day. According to an official from the Vile Parle police, the incident took place at around 2 am in Kabir Nagar located near Chakala on Sahar Road. The victim, Pratibha (name changed), is a sex worker by profession.
The complainant Krushna Chandu Sapalika (40), a taxi driver, who lives in Kabir Nagar, had asked Pratibha to come to his residence. Sapalika had deliberately sent his wife and daughter to their village. Pratibha came to Sapalika’s residence in the afternoon.
The duo had locked the door from inside; one of the accused, who lives right in front of the Sapalika’s residence, suspected something amiss. On learning that Sapalika was cheating on his wife for a sex worker, the four accused decided to exploit the situation.
At around 2 am, the four accused barged into Sapalika’s residence and raped Pratibha one after the other. It is learnt that one of the accused molested Pratibha, but did not rape her.
In the morning, Pratibha with the help of Sapalika registered a rape case against the four accused. The four accused have been identified as Rajesh Verma (21), Mahesh Kewat (20), Krishna Kewat (32) and Ramchandra Hubey (30).
