40 tonnes of garbage on Juhu beach daily

While Mumbai generates about 7000 metric tonnes of garbage each day, the sea throws up additional waste. BMC-hired private contractors clean up nearly 40 tonnes of garbage that washes up on the suburban Juhu beach daily.
Garbage washed up from the sea is also collected from Girgaum, Dadar, Mahim, Aksa, and Gorai beaches. When asked
about measures being taken to keep the shores clean, chief engineer (garbage disposal) of Santa Cruz said, “Monthly patrolling is done by assistant heads and supervisors of particular area to ensure that the contractors are doing their job properly.”
BMC officials say garbage washed up from the sea is also collected from Girgaum, Dadar, Mahim, Aksa, and Gorai beaches.

According to a manager for Techno Trade Guru Kripa Contractors, that cleans up Juhu beach, “During monsoons, more than 100 tonnes of garbage is collected round-the-clock. Solid waste, plastic wrappers, bags and flowers during festive season are part of garbage washing up on the shore.”
