`40cr sanctioned to develop LTT phase-II

The railway board has sanctioned `40 crore for the phase-II development of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus’s (LTT) — a major city terminus. The Railways plan to expand its capacity from the current 48 trains daily, to 100 trains in the future.
“CR caters to three different directions and hence, it is important to increase its capacity. LTT has an additional advantage, because there is a dedicated fifth and sixth line only for long-distance trains. This line will be expanded further till Kalyan for seamless connectivity so that we can run more long-distance trains. At present, suburban trains share the same track with certain long-distance trains; it gets difficult to add more trains. The plan at LTT includes building new platforms, maintenance equipment and improving the parking area at LTT,” said Subodh Jain, general manager, CR.
Another plan is to construct an elevated deck at LTT with a parking area above it. The future prospects are bright for LTT as the Santa Cruz-Che-mbur Link Road will have a landing for the station. With this, passengers could reach the Western and Eastern Express Highways within minutes. CR is also planning to shift certain operations of long distance trains from Dadar terminus to LTT within a year.
