6 held for producing fake caste certificates
The Wadala TT police has arrested six persons who were involved in a racket that issued bogus caste certificates, verification certificates and other relevant certificates. The group provided a bogus caste certificate to an open category candidate to fraudulently take admission in the first year MBBS class in KJ Somaiya Medical College. The cheating incident came to light when a parent sought information using the Right to Information Act. A student’s father was among the six who were arrested.
According to the police, the college is permitted to provide training to 50 students, out of which 43 seats are aided by government funds. The government had sent a list of 43 eligible candidates to the college and they were subsequently given admission for 2013-2014. Parent Hemantan Garat, who failed to secure admission for his ward, raised a doubt that an OBC category student, Swati Pettam, who was on number 34 in the list, was from the open category.
Mr Garat, through RTI, obtained information from the caste verification department that informed him that Swati’s caste certificate was bogus and the particular certificate bearing number 13129 is actually allotted to one Pranali Prakash Narkar. When the alleged cheating was brought to the notice of education and amendment directorate, KJ Somaiya College was asked to lodge an offence in this regard. The bogus caste certificate was made by paying `35,000.

Four held for adulterating milk in poisar

The Samta Nagar police, in an early morning raid at a couple of shanties in a slum area at Kandivali (east), arrested four milk retailers who have been allegedly adulterating milk from well-known brands like Amul, Gokul, Mahananda etc. They have been allegedly supplying it to the local residents of Kandivali east and west for the past one year.
According to the police, the accused used to mix 25 litres of water to every 100 litres of milk. They then would fill the extra-adulterated milk in duplicate milk packets. They used a paper cutter, candle and a funnel to adulterate the milk. “The raid took place in a slum next to Shivaji Maidan in the Poisar area of Kandivali (east). They used to change their locations fearing arrest,” said investigating officer, police sub-inspector Ganesh S. Patil of Samta Nagar police station.
“We have seized 454 litres of adulterated milk from them and the equipment used to adulterate milk. They used to carry out the adulteration between 3.30 am to 5 am,” added Mr Patil. The accused are Chandraya Narsaya Gorla (22), Veeraya Malaya Shivvaianna (20), Krussaiya Ramlingiya Kurakulla (36) and Murli Pataya Alli (19).
