7 fresh cases of swine flu reported in Pune

Swine flu has once again reared its ugly head in the state with seven fresh cases being reported in Pune on Saturday, and four already succumbing to the disease in the last fortnight. The disease had been dormant for almost six months.

The total number of affected people in Pune went up to 33 on Saturday, out of which two serious patients have been kept on the ventilator, nine admitted in isolated wards, while the rest have been discharged after medication. “The deaths have been a serious concern. The four patients who died had some major ailments apart from swine flu itself
due to which their resistant power was low,” said Dr S. T. Pardeshi, chief medical officer, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), adding that patients are undergoing treatment at 13 private hospitals and one municipal hospital in Pune.
The state health machinery too has geared up and hospitals that treated affected people in the event of the previous outbreak are being utilised this time around too. “We have strengthened the precautionary measures that have to be taken by supplying medicines
and keeping isolated wards at hospitals,” said Dr Pradip Awate, head of Integrated Disease Surveillance.
