‘Accept CMAT scores or face derecognition’

The All India Council of Education (AICTE) has warned to all its affiliated institutions and universities of strict action in the event of non-acceptance of the Common Management Admissions Test (CMAT) scores that it conducts twice a year.
According to AICTE officials most second and third tier management institutions readily accepted the order. However, the educational body had issued the warning aiming at the top institutions, that have refused to accept the CMAT scores. “Due to the high level of competition for seats in some of the top notch institutions, AICTE decided to conduct the test twice a year. Aspirants can opt for the best score and secure admission to the institution or university of their choice,” said an AICTE official.
In 2011, the Supreme Court after hearing a petition against the exploitation by management institutions had ordered the government to formulate ways to curb the same. The official said they had come to know of some top institutions planning to disregard the AICTE order.
“AICTE will blacklist these institutions. It could also mean derecognition of these institutions, which will imply that the degrees that students get from these institutions, will not be valid for jobs in government and public undertakings,” the official added.

Congress blames Ncp for inefficiency
Age correspondent
Mumbai, Sept. 3

The dispute between the ruling parties reached a new level when the Congress’ water conservation minister Nitin Raut claimed that the Irrigation Department under the NCP minister Sunil Tatkare has not been providing due resources, manpower, etc. for proper functioning of his department.
Mr Raut on Monday brought to the notice of the Maharashtra chief minister the fact that his department did not have enough staff to deal with issues such as water shortage and lowering of water level in soil. He demanded that a separate category of staff be allocated to the water conservation department if necessary staff from the irrigation department should be deputed to work in the water conservation department, demanded Raut.
A presentation by the Water Conservation Department on minor irrigation projects took place In Vidhan Bhavan on Monday. In the presentation made to the CM, it was told that the department came into existence on September 16, 1992 but it was not given any separate staff.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
