Acid attack victim on ventilator: Uncle

The condition of the 25-year-old acid attack victim, Preeti Rathi, who has been admitted to Masina Hospital, continued fluctuating through Monday. She was put on ventilator again, said her uncle Vinod Kumar.
However, the hospital authorities said that cold milk was fed to her using the feeding tube and there were no complications.
“We fed her cold milk with protein powder and she was able to tolerate it, which is a good sign. It also shows that her wounds are healing and she is recovering well,” said Dr R. Dastur, medical director, Masina Hospital.
For now, Ms Rathi continues to communicate through scribbles on pieces of paper. Through the many scribbles, she pleaded to her father and uncle to meet the Navy authorities and request them to not cancel her appointment and give her time to recover.
“She has been scribbling notes to us and pleading that we meet the authorities. She has gone into depression now. She doesn’t want to lose the job; if she does, it will kill her confidence,” said Ms Rathi’s uncle Vinod Kumar.
Meanwhile, there is still uncertainty about her job at INHS Asvini. The victim’s relatives and her father met the authorities to discuss the issue on Monday. Elaborating on the details of the meeting, Mr Kumar said, “We have submitted an application to the authorities asking them to postpone the date of her joining, till the time she is rehabilitated and fit to take up the responsibilities that the job demands…We even requested them to visit the hospital once, just to tell her that she would still be eligible for the job. That would bring her confidence back.”
However, there is no official confirmation on whether Ms Rathi will retain her job.
Spokesperson for defence, N. Visphute said, “Her parents have submitted an application requ-esting to postpone the joining date. Nothing in certain terms can be said at this moment. More-over, it is up to the appointing authorities to take the final call.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
