Senior NCP leader Praful Patel on Wednesday indicated that the party will take action against minister of state for urban development Bhaskar Jadhav if any incriminating material is found against him in the investigation by the income tax (I-T) department.
Reacting to the investigation started by the IT department, Mr Patel said, “Our leader Sharad Pawar has expressed grave concern over the expenses made on the wedding ceremony of Bhaskar Jadhav’s son and daughter. After that nobody from our party needs to say anything more. If the I-T department has taken any action and if anything incriminating is found against Mr Jadhav in the investigation, the party will definitely take action against him.”
Mr Jadhav is under fire following investigations started last week by the I-T department into lavish weddings of his son and daughter, which was held on February 13 at The Quality Inn at Chiplun. According to reports,80,000 people were invited for the wedding and 22 helipads were built for VIPs. The total expenditure on the ceremony was reportedly over `2 crore. Following the reports, the I-T department on Monday raided various premises of Mr Jadhav and also questioned him.
Former NCP MLA from Jadhav’s Chiplun constituency, Ramesh Kadam, demanded that the I-T should also investigate into the wealth accumulated by Mr Jadhav and his associates. “At the moment, the I-T department is only investigating the money spent on the wedding ceremony. The investigation should be full-fledged and delve into the properties amassed by Mr Jadhav’s PA and other associates,” Mr Kadam said.
Voicing his displeasure, Mr Pawar had said that he could not sleep the whole night when he saw visuals of the wedding on television.
In a related development, the service tax department on Wednesday initiated searches on the premises
of decorators hired for the wedding. “We conducted a search in around seven premises of DG Decorators located in Mumbai, while the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence carried out searches at four premises of a man, identified as Shah, in Karad in the Satara district,” said sources in the department. The premises include residence, offices and other establishments of the decorators.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
