Agents held for data theft

The Vikhroli Parksite police has arrested three insurance agents of a well-known private insurance company for allegedly stealing data of another private insurance company. Both companies operate on a national level.
According to the police, they stole the complainant company’s data and later made calls to their insurance policy holders and defamed the complainant company by telling the customers negative information about it. The police has seized two laptops and two hard disks and are further investigating the case.
The arrested accused have been identified as Rajesh Pal, Rahul Kure and Joseph Nadar.
According to a police officer, “The senior manager of the victim insurance company recently registered an offence with us, claiming that they have learnt that a few people have been stealing private data of their policy holders for the last six months.”
Following the complaint, the police raided a private company in Asha-Usha Complex in Parksite on Friday and arrested Pal, Kure and Nadar. Investigators found customer data details of the complainant’s company from the seized laptops of the accused. Subsequently, the accused were arrested under Section 379 of the IPC and relevant sections of Information Technology Act.
“During investigation, the accused said that they had opened a small company in Asha-Usha Complex in Vikhroli. From this company, they made calls to those customers whose details they had stolen from the complainant’s company. They would do negative publicity for the complainant company and also defame it,” said an assistant inspector of police.
“The accused claim that they are insurance agents of a renowned private company, however, we have asked them to produce their appointment letters,” the officer added. Another officer added that more arrests were likely in the case.
