All lodges must have CCTV: Patil
Maharashtra home minister R.R. Patil on Tuesday said that every lodge, whether private or public, should have CCTVs and maintain proper registers to keep a record of every person visiting the lodge. The minister also expressed the need to strictly implement the Cyber Crime Act.
During the Assembly session, Mr Patil also confirmed that the person arrested in the sex scandal case in Malegaon, Satana and other areas in the Nashik district, was a member of the NCP’s youth wing. He further said that the ruling party was not trying to shield the accused. As soon as MLA Umaji Borse had lodged a complaint, raids were carried out at the two lodges, where poor girls were being lured into having sexual relations with men and films were taken of the act, he said.
“Porn films were taken and then distributed in the market. The accused, who was arrested on June 18, is still in judicial custody and proper action is being taken,” Mr Patil said.
BJP MLA Girish Bapat suggested that it was necessary to install CCTVs and maintain proper entry-exit registers at all the guest houses and lodges, to curb people from using public places for unscrupulous purposes.
“Even if there is some criminal activity, the same can be detected at the earliest with the help of CCTVs,” Mr Bapat said.
The minister stated that licences were issued to lodges by collectors, but it is the duty of the police to keep a check on illegal activities.
