‘Ambedkar’s claims over college false’
The spat between the Siddharth College management and Prakash Ambedkar, national president of Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) took a new turn on Wednesday, after the management alleg-ed that Mr Ambedkar was misleading his supporters and making false claims to take ov-er the college illegally.
While speaking about the legitimacy of the People Education Soci-ety’s governing council, advocate Pritam Kumar Shevgaonkar, chairman of PES, Mumbai said, “This is a public trust, so a member will be appointed only if there is a consensus of all the members. We have nothing against Mr Ambedkar. He can become a member only if other members unanimously approve the same.”
Mr Shevgaonkar’s retort was in reply to the BBM’s claim that as per rule, one person from the Ambedkar family had to be a member of the society. However, the governing body of the college maintained that it was a public trust and not a family trust.
Five days ago, Mr Ambedkar and his supporters had created a ruckus outside Sidd-harth College forcing the college to call the police.
The ensuing clash between the police and Mr Ambedkar’s supporters resulted in the arrest of 51 men and women, including Mr Ambedkar himself.
Mr Shevgaonkar added, “The charity commissioner had disqualified two of our members. There is no order by the charity commissioner for dissolving the current governing body, then how can Mr Ambedkar be appointed as the chairman.”
