And so will the usual pothole saga
The monsoon may have just begun, but potholes have promptly started resurfacing on city roads, and with them have surfaced BMC’s unfulfilled promises.
According to the website www.voiceofcitizen.com, a total of 59 potholes have been reported since the monsoon started, but only five have been allocated for filling. Civic officials have blamed the contractors for this delay. “The contractors are yet to mobilise their machinery and labour. This has caused the delay in pothole repairs. But we have asked them to pull up their socks at the earliest,” said a civic official.
Of the 59 pothole complaints, 47 have been reported by the engineers of the roads department and others have been reported by the road engineers at the ward level. None of the potholes reported at the ward level have been taken up for filling.
The BMC since November 2011, started using a pothole-tracking software. Citizens and civic engineers can upload photos of potholes on the portal, after which the sub-engineer of the concerned ward should assign the filling work to the contractor.
According to the data available on the pothole-tracking website, there were a total of 26,285 potholes reported till now, of which only 25,026 have been attended to.
