‘Another debate will be demanded’
Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council, Vinod Tawde on Sunday said that the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance would again raise the demand for a debate on the irrigation scam in the Upper House on Monday.
Mr Tawde (BJP), who met governor K. Sankaranarayanan in Pune earlier in the day, said the Congress-NCP government cannot stop the Opposition from debating the scam and the white-paper published by the government on the issue.
“We told the governor that we will continue with our demand of debate,” Mr Tawde told reporters. Functioning of the Legislative Council has been affected for the last three days, as Opposition is seeking a debate and the NCP is opposing it saying that the matter is before the court.
The issue relates to the government’s failure to complete several irrigation projects in the last 10 years, despite an expenditure of `70,000 crore. The PILs have been filed alleging a scam and seeking a CBI probe. The irrigation portfolio has been with the NCP during this period.
