Arms haul case accused denied prison transfer
The sessions court has rejected the application filed by one of the accused in the Aurangabad arms haul case.
Mustafa Sayed, who was arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in October 2012 from Hyderabad, had filed an application in the MCOCA court, requesting that he be transferred to Arthur Road Jail. The accused is currently lodged in Taloja Jail.
According to defence counsel advocate Khalid Azmi, his client was being forced to turn approver in the case, which is why he was seeking a transfer.
Special public prosecutor Raja Thackerey, however claimed that the accused cannot decide in which prison, he/she should be lodged. “Only the police can decide where the accused will be lodged. Hence, Sayed’s application was rejected by the court,” Mr Thackeray said.
In 2006, the ATS had seized 43 kg RDX, 50 hand grenades, 16 AK-47 rifles and over 3,000 live bullets in Aurangabad and arrested 21 persons in the case.
