Bail bonds case: cbi to take stricter action
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday informed the Bombay high court that it would take strict action against those involved in the Kurla bail bond scam. It also informed the court that it has chargesheeted the inspector of Kurla police station who is the main accused in the scam.
A division bench of Justice P.V. Hardas and Justice A.R. Joshi was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by railway activist Samir Zaveri that created awareness of the ongoing bail bond scam.
Several RPF personnel at Kurla station would allegedly detain people for crossing tracks or for trespassing and would then punish them under the Railway Act. The detainees would then be presented in a fake court near Kurla station where a head constable masquerading as a magistrate would release them on a cash bail.
In a previous hearing, additional solicitor general Kevic Setalvad, representing the investigating agency, infor-med the court that the agency has filed an application to the competent authority of the state to investigate and chargesheet the other accused who are still employed with the RPF or the state. On Mon-day, he informed the court that the agency had received sanction from the government and would soon chargesheet them after completing its investigation. He also infor-med the court that inspector Sanjay Shin-de, who was the main accused in the case, has also been chargesheeted. The agency had chargesheeted 12 other persons in the case.
