Be prepared for monsoon, don't fail, CM tells all departments
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday reviewed the administrative preparations the state has taken before the advent of the monsoon. The CM has asked the Railways, BMC, MMRDA, police, relief and rehabilitation department as well as all other administrative wings to be on their toes and be prepared.
“People expect us to provide adequate civic amenities in every season. If our system collapses during the monsoon, as it does very often, it doesn’t reflect well on us,” the CM said.
The CM added that the state is well prepared, but has to withstand the test of time. “No shortcomings or slackness will be tolerated, and the system will be held responsible for every flaw,” he said.
The central control room at Mantralaya has also been asked to be on the alert and interact with people and officials in the field through VHF, hotlines, websites, MMS, satellite links and other facilities. He also instructed the Railways to update the public address system to make sure that passengers don’t face hardships and inconveniences if and when trains rescheduled.
The CM has also asked the officials to ensure that all work on the Mithi River, including removal of encroachment, widening and de-silting, is completed before the monsoon. “It’s difficult to expect the work that has taken six years to complete to be done in the next 15 days, but the state trying its best to ensure that people don’t suffer during the monsoon,” he said.
