Big promises made at Gateway function
On International Women’s Day, many dignitaries, including the CM, Chief Justice, and other top officials from the criminal justice system gathered at a function organised by the Mumbai police at the Gateway of India to felicitate women achievers and to spread awareness on women safety. Over a thousand women attended the function.
Chief Justice Mohit Shah of Bombay high court said, “On Friday, we passed a circular where only female staffers will be deployed in the courtroom when trials of crime cases against women are taking place. Out of 1,800 judges only 400 are women. In order to encourage more women to become judges, we will allow mothers-in-law of trainee lady judges to stay at the hostels, so in their absence, children will be taken care of.”
CM Prithviraj Chavan said, “We need to change the mindset of our next generation. The third women’s policy has been put on the website and suggestions are welcome. Also, now there are specific days allotted for women every week, where senior officials at district and taluka level interact with women to solve their problems.” R.R. Patil, Sanjeev Dayal, Hema Malini, Preity Zinta, Dia Mirza were among those who attended the event.
