Bill not for people: Team A
Team Anna on Wednesday made it amply clear that the UPA government was the main target of the movement against corruption, but warned that other parties too could become targets if they were found guilty of corruption.
Addressing the crowd at the MMRDA ground on Wednesday, A-Team frontliner Arvind Kejriwal lambasted the government saying there was nothing democratic in the Lokpal bill that was passed in Parliament. “It is not a bill for the people. It’s a bill for the UPA,” he said.
When asked why Team Anna was targeting only the UPA and not other parties, Mr Kejriwal said, “The Jan Lokpal bill has been made by the ruling UPA government, and only because of that was it passed in the Lok Sabha. That’s why.” He added, “The bill is yet to be passed in the Rajya Sabha. Only after that will it become a law. We will intensify our agitation before it is tabled in the Rajya Sabha.”
Responding to allegations that Team Anna had not set their sights on Opposition parties, he said in the next plan of action they would go to the five poll-bound states to create awareness amongst the people against the Congress. “As of now, our target is the ruling party, but as we go along, we will modify our strategy as required,” he said, adding that if the UPA passed a strong Jan Lokpal bill, the people would realise themselves that the movement was not one against the Congress.
