BMC makes list of bad roads of other agencies

Facing flak for potholes on roads that belong to other agencies, the BMC has now decided to notify police stations about which agencies these roads belong to.
According to the civic officials, there are 599 potholes that are reported on roads that are owned by other agencies like MMRDA, Mhada, MSRDC, etc. Despite several reminders, these agencies have failed to fill the potholes, due to which the civic body is unnecessarily facing the wrath of people.
According to civic officials, in a meeting held at civic headquarters on Tuesday to discuss the pothole issue, none of the representatives of these agencies turned up. Taking serious note of this, the civic administration directed all road engineers to
inform police stations about such bad roads in their wards.
“We have now decided to provide a list of all the bad roads that belong to other agencies to police stations so that in case an accident occurs due to potholes, the police officials will be aware of the agency maintaining that road and the BMC will not be held responsible,” said a senior civic official.
“In the standing committee meeting held last week, officials of these agencies had assured the BMC that they would repair potholes at the earliest. However, roads continue to be in bad shape. The BMC will be sending a notice to these agencies asking them to repair the roads and a copy of this notice will be sent to police stations,” said Laxman Vhatkar, director, engineering (services and projects).
