BMC official robbed on way home
BMC additional commissioner Mohan Adtani became the latest victim of motorcycle-borne thieves when he was robbed of his `35,000 cellphone on Marine Drive late on Saturday evening. The matter was immediately reported to the Marine Drive police station that has registered a case and is on the look out for the accused.
According to Mr Adtani’s statement to the police, he was walking on the Meghdoot flyover heading home to Malabar Hill. At around 9.40 pm, the two accused, riding a motorcycle, came up alongside him, snatched his cellphone from his right hand and sped away in the north-bound direction towards Girgaum. Mr Adtani lives in SCM Bungalow near Hanging Gardens on Malabar Hill.
“We have registered a case of theft against unknown persons and are trying to identify them. It is unlikely that they are residents of south Mumbai and might belong to some of the chain-snatching gangs in the central, western and eastern suburbs.
We are rounding up criminals on record to check if they or any of their accomplices might be involved in the crime,” said an officer from the Marine Drive police station.
PI (crime) Rajendra Patil said, “There is one CCTV camera right on the bridge and two others in Kalbadevi and Metro cinema. We are scanning them to see if they might have captured the accused. The accused are most likely from other parts of the city since several people from different areas come to Marine Drive in the evenings. Repeat offenders involved in chain-snatching arrested by other police stations are also being questioned and we are confident of catching them soon.”
