BMC security detects dummy bomb
A week after facing flak for allowing formally dressed officers of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) into the civic headquarters
without any interrogation, the security team of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reacted quickly and passed the next ATS security test successfully. The BMC officials managed to intercept a dummy bomb that the ATS officials from the Azad Maidan police station had carried into the civic headquarters.
According to the civic officials, the incident happened on Tuesday when the ATS officers dressed in formal clothes tried to enter the civic head office from gate number 6 with a bag carrying a dummy bomb. Babasaheb Ghule, the security guard who was on duty, asked for his identification. However, as he tried to evade questions, Mr Ghule put his bag in the baggage-scanning machine. Security guard Darshana Pawar, who was observing the machine, found that the bag contained electrical circuits. They immediately intercepted the suspect, who finally revealed his identity as a policeman and informed them about the mock drill.
In the backdrop of a possible terror attack on the city, the ATS often tries to check vigilance of the BMC’s security system.
