Boxer’s bout for survival
Students of Thakur College are doing their best to collect funds for their boxing teammate who suffered a severe blow during a practice session, resulting in brain haemorrhage.
Even as national-level boxing champion Manisha Chauhan battles for her life at Nair Hospital, her teammates have started collecting contributions towards her treatment as her family is finding it difficult to pay for her costly treatment.
The second year bachelor of commerce student was sparring with her team on Tuesday night when she suffered a devastating knock to the head. She collapsed on the spot and when she failed to respond, her teammates rushed her to the hospital where she was put on life support.
“We want to show our respect for Manisha’s fighting spirit. As a female boxer, she has been the best and has knocked down even boys in practice matches. We want to see her back in the boxing ring. Even a contribution of `1 means a lot to us,” said Manisha’s teammate Gaurav Singh.
Students have been spotted with contribution boxes on the college campus and have been urging teachers and students alike to contribute however much they can to save their friend.
Ms Chauhan’s sports instructor M.K. Ali said, “Manisha has been in the boxing team for the past four years and has been a strong contender for national medals. As treatment for her brain haemorrhage is expensive, the college students have stepped in to help her.”
