Boy held for molesting minor
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for molesting a seven-year-old girl in Mahim. While the incident took place around a month ago, the girl’s parents learnt about it on Wednesday, after which they approached the police and filed a complaint on Thursday.
Both the accused and the victim know each other and are residents of the same area at Macchimar Colony in Mahim. According to the police, the girl was playing with her friends, when the accused called her home and molested her. The girl’s friends were aware of the incident.
“On Wednesday, the girl’s friends were at her place, when they playfully broached the subject. Her mother sensed something amiss and forced them to tell her what had happened,” said DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni. The family then decided to file a complaint.
The accused is a student of Class 8, while the victim studies in Class 2. Her parents work as construction labourers. The police has arrested the boy under the IPC and the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act. However, since he is a minor, he was sent to a juvenile remand home. “We sent the girl for a medical examination to ascertain if rape had taken place, but are still awaiting the reports,” added Mr Kulkarni.

Man accused of wife murder meets daughter
Mumbai, Feb. 28: Poignant scenes were witnessed in the Bombay high court on Thursday when a man serving life term for killing his wife was allowed to have a glimpse of his daughter, who does not know him, but could not meet her.
Thirty-year-old Prashant Chavan, out on parole, was permitted by the Bombay high court to have a look at his little daughter, being raised by her maternal uncle and aunt,on compassionate grounds.
As directed by a division bench, the girl was brought to the court by her uncle and aunt, and called inside the chambers of Justices N.H. Patil and A.R. Joshi as her father stood outside, watching wistfully. Chavan, who was convicted in 2005 for killing his wife a year before, had filed a Habeas Corpus petition in the high court urging that he be allowed just to have a look at his daughter if not permitted to meet her. He had pleaded that her daughter was just 18-months-old, when he was sent to jail in 2005 after a lower court held him guilty of killing his wife. —PTI
