BUCTU TO ENSURE MU, SNDT EXAMS ARE DERAILED

In the absence of any government effort to resolve the degree college teachers’ strike, the Bombay University and College Teachers Union (Buctu) on Monday announced that their attempt to derail the exam process of the University was on.
While speaking about their agitation that has already entered the second month, Buctu members, along with teachers from SNDT Women’s University said that they would not be releasing the internal marks of the students. This they said would be a hindrance for the University in preparing results of college students, who appeared for exams on the 60:40 format.
“The government has tried to circumvent us by getting the exams conducted by the universities on schedule though we had asked for a postponement. It does not mean that we have lost out. We will continue our agitation by not reporting for assessment as well as moderation duty. Even if the government manages to get the papers assessed, we will not release the marks of the internal projects. This will ensure that the results are held up,” said Madhu Paranjpe, Buctu member.
The member added that the move was not only restricted to the MU and SNDT, but also teachers from other state universities affiliated to the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation.

BJP’s barot stays improvement committee chief
Age Correspondent
Mumbai, April 8

Ram Barot, a senior BJP corporator from Malad, created history as he was elected as the chairman of the civic improvements committee for the second consecutive term on Monday.
In the history of BMC, the BJP has never allowed a corporator to continue heading the post of a committee chairman. However, Mr Barot proved to be an exception, as the BJP decided to re-nominate him as civic improvements committee chairman despite his unimpressive record. Sources said, Mr Barot’s association with influential leaders in the party proved to be helpful in him retaining his post.
The improvements committee is the second important committee in the BMC as it deals with most of the policy decisions regarding property and estate in the city.
Mr Barot, earlier, has also held the chair of the deputy mayor, and the chairman of the education committee. He won the civic improvement committee elections by defeating his Congress rival Winni D’Souza by 14-8 votes. The Samajwadi Party and MNS didn’t vote in the election.
The improvements committee was given to the BJP just three years ago.
