Case registered against firm for mpsc data
Age Correspondent
Mumbai, July 9

The cyber crime cell of the Mumbai police on Tuesday registered a case against Vast India Pvt Ltd, a few days after the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) filed a written complaint.
Earlier this year, the MPSC had to postpone its annual exam for Class 1 and 2 officers after the data of nearly 3.22 lakh students and other examination information went missing. Vast India was contracted to maintain the MPSC website, along with developing other exam related applications.
While initially the cause was suspected to be a virus causing the server crash, an internal probe by the
MPSC concluded that it was the company’s inept handling and suspected “ulterior” motive that caused the crash. Crime branch chief joint CP Himanshu Roy confirmed the development. The police has registered a case under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC and relevant sections of the IT Act.
“According to the MPSC, Vast India had deliberately deleted the student data and caused the crash as a part of a conspiracy to post pone the civil services exam,” said a source from the cyber crime cell.
