Celebrities come out to vote

Celebrities striking a pose with the inked index finger, certainly make for great photo-ops, but their turnout on Thursday did not do any wonders to the otherwise tepid elections.

Though many A-listers from Bollywood gave the elections a miss, there were still some who made it a point to cast their vote. The elite pockets of Bandra — Mount Mary and Pali Hill — saw several known faces from the film industry at the polling booths.
Early morning-risers Priya Dutt and Gulzar were seen at St. Anne’s School in Pali Hill. Ms Dutt briefly posed for the cameras and said, “Hopefully people will turn out in good numbers. I can vouch for myself, but not for everyone.” Her family members weren’t far behind as her sister-in-law Maanyata Dutt came at around 1 pm sans husband Sanjay, who was busy campaigning for the UP polls. Sister Namrata Dutt came with husband Kumar Gaurav.
The other eminent faces who dropped by at the St. Anne’s school were Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra. Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, well-known santoor player, came post noon and also spoke about the existing problems in the city. Mandira Bedi, came in at around 3.15 pm, and designer Anna Singh and Aamir Khan’s ex-wife Reena Dutta turned up to vote too.
At Mount Mary Convent High School, the Khan family made its presence felt. Salman Khan was conspicuous by his absence as he was shooting abroad, but brother Arbaaz and father Salim made up for him.
Yesteryear actress Waheeda Rehman and Zoya Akhtar were the early risers at Mount Mary. And even though the two biggies Aamir and Salman were missing, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan created a frenzy with his arrival at around 5 pm. The other celebrities who were seen at polling booths across Juhu were Sonali Bendre, Anupam Kher, Shubha Khote, Vikram Gokhale and Atul Parchure.
