Central team meets officials
The Central team, which is in the city to assess the total drug resistant tuberculosis (TDR-TB) situation, held a three-hour long meeting with officials from the state, civic and leading private hospitals on Tuesday.
Although there was no clarity about how to tackle TDR TB, the secretary for family welfare and public health Jayant Kumar Banthia said, “We will take a final call tomorrow on various issues concerning TDR-TB. Some more senior officials from the Centre are expected to arrive tomorrow.”
The Central team comprised senior chief medical officer, Central TB Division (CTD), consultant (drug resistant TB), CTD and national programme officer (laboratories) and WHO-India. Senior officials from city’s leading hospitals Jaslok, PD Hinduja, Breach Candy and SL Raheja also attended the meeting on Tuesday.
Wednesday’s meeting is going to be the most decisive on every aspect of TDR-TB, right from the issue of isolation of patients to what term to be used for drug resistanttuberculosis.
