‘Chavan delayed tabling of report’

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has blamed chief minister Prithiviraj Chavan for the delay in tabling the probe report of the Adarsh judicial commission. He was replying to the Opposition’s demand for tabling the Adarsh report in the state Assembly on Friday.
“I was asked by the CM to announce that the Adarsh report would be tabled before the end of this Monsoon Session,” said the deputy chief minister, who had assured the House of the same.
Meanwhile, the Opposition’s demands resulted in the disruption of the House proceedings. The members of the Opposition created a furore, compelling deputy speaker Vasant Purke to adjourn the House for half-an-hour. They alleged that the ruling Democratic Front government was trying to protect some of its leaders who were involved in the scandal.
“Things smell fishy. It is the right of the House to know what happened to the report,” senior BJP legislator Devendra Fadnavis said. He alleged that the deputy chief minister had assured the House about tabling the report, and now the government was not fulfilling its promise.
In his reply, the chief minister said that the Action To Be Taken Report was not ready yet. “We thought the ATR would be ready by Friday. On the basis of this, I asked the deputy chief minister to tell the House that the report would be tabled on the last day of the Session. However, the ATR isn’t read yet,” said the chief minister.
He further said, “The process as per the commission, is still underway. The state government will inform about the date of tabling the report at an appropriate time,” Mr Chavan said, refusing to take further questions on the Adarsh report.
Not satisfied with the CM’s response, leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse asked Mr Chavan to table the Adarsh report without the Action To Be Taken Report. However, speaker Dilip Walse-Patil objected, saying that permission to table the report was required in advance.
The three-week Monsoon Session of the state Legislature was adjourned sine die on Friday. The governor has convened the Winter Session in Nagpur on December 9, the speaker
announced.
