City haunted by rape of 10-yr-old, widow

Two rape cases kept the Mumbai police busy on Friday. While in one incident, a 15-year-old boy was arrested for raping a 10-year-old girl in Ghakopar, in another incident, a widow was raped at her residence in Prabhadevi.
According to the Ghatkopar police, the 10-year-old girl had gone to buy biscuits at a grocery shop near her residence at around 10.30 am on Thursday. The accused, worked in the grocery shop. “He gave the girl the biscuits and then followed her till a distance. He then accosted her and took her to an isolated place in the Khandoba Tekdi area, where she was overpowered and raped,” said a police officer from the Ghatkopar police station.
The girl, who was distraught and scared rushed back home, but did not inform her family about the incident.
However, the family noticed that she was bleeding from her private parts, after which they took her to a private hospital later in the evening. The doctors noticed that the girl bore injuries to her private parts and the police was subsequently notified.
Later, the victim disclosed the entire ordeal to her family members.
The accused had been missing since Thursday and was later apprehended on Friday morning. The victim is recuperating in the hospital. The accused has been booked for kidnapping and rape and will be produced before a juvenile court as he is a minor.
In another incident at New Prabhadevi Road, NM Joshi Marg, a 36-year-old widow was raped at her residence.
The police has arrested 28-year-old Prakash Ra-esh Amdaskar, who runs a private business.
“Prakash lives in the same area. He knocked the door of the victim at 5 am on Friday. When she opened the door, he barged inside and brandished a knife. Prakash then slapped her 15-year-old son who was sleeping and threatened him with dire consequences if he raised any alarm,” said senior police inspector Vasant Tajne from the NM Joshi police station.
The victim was raped, after which Amdaskar escaped from the spot. The victim had lost her husband six years ago in an accident. “We have arrested Amdaskar on charges of rape. The victim was sent for medical examinations and the reports are awaited,” said Mr Tajne.
