Class 12 student hangs self
A young girl from Kalyan took her life on Sunday evening at her residence fearing poor performance in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams. According to the Kolsewadi police, Pooja Jadhav (22), a resident of the Kathe Manivali area in Kalyan (E) had appeared for her HSC exams twice in the past but had failed both times. Her failure was a constant cause of depression for her. Pooja appeared for the third time in February this year.
However, after the exam, she told her parents that she had found the papers difficult to answer this time as well.
On Sunday, Pooja was alone at home, as her parents had gone to Pune. At around 11.30 am, a family friend came to visit her, but repeated knocks generated no response.
Finally, at around 4.45 pm, the door was broken down. Pooja was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the living room by a dupatta.
“Pooja left behind a suicide note saying that she was taking her life, and that the clothes and ornaments she was wearing should be burnt with her body. She further requested that her pet dog Raja be taken care of,” said Mr Ravindra Deshmukh, assistant police inspector, Kolsewadi police station.
Pooja’s parents have given a statement saying that she was suffering from depression. She was fed up appearing for the same exams again and again, the police said.
