College collects `93k for boxer’s treatment
Students of Thakur College have managed to collect `93,000 for their boxer teammate, who suffered a brain hemorrhage during a practice session last week. Doctors say that the 19-year-old is out of coma, but is suffering from amnesia and will take some time to recover.
On Wednesday, the second year student collapsed after she was hit on the head during a boxing practice session in the evening. Her friends and coach rushed her to Nair Hospital, where she was put on life support after she failed to respond. The students decided to collect funds for her treatment as her parents could not afford it.
“After Manisha was admitted to the hospital, we found it difficult to convince people to donate funds for her treatment. After her plight was highlighted by the print media, many came forward to offer help,” said Gaurav Singh, a senior boxing teammate of Manisha’s. The total amount of `93,000 was handed over to Manisha’s parents.
“We are thankful to the media for telling the world about my daughter’s plight. Had the students not helped us financially, she would have been in a critical condition,” said Manisha’s father, Vijay Pal Chauhan.

Bhatkal planted bomb at Dadar: 13/7 accused

One of the accused in the 13/7 triple blasts, Nadeem Sheikh admitted in his confessional statement that Indian Mujahideen chief Yasin Bhatkal had planted the bomb in Dadar.
Sheikh, in his statement, has said that the attack was planned five months before the blast in February last year, when Bhatkal was in the city. Bhatkal also introduced Sheikh to other accused Waqas and Tabrez, who planted the explosives at Opera House and Zaveri Bazaar. The ATS had filed the first chargesheet in the case on May 25 against 10 members of the Indian Mujahideen. While six are still absconding, the four who have been
arrested include Naquee Ahmed, Haroon Naik, Nadeem Sheikh and Kanwar Pathrija. An additional chargesheet was filed against Mohammed Qateel Ansari on August 14.
The conspirators including Sheikh had met on July 7, when Bhatkal, Naquee Ahmed, Waqas, Tabrez, and a person only identified as Munnabhai were present. Bhatkal had instructed Ahmed and Munnabhai to steal two wheelers that were to be used by Waqas and Tabrez to plant the bombs. ATS chief Rakesh Maria said, “I wouldn’t be able to comment on the matter unless I read the confessional statement, which I am yet to receive.”
