College suspends professor
The married lecturer from Tilak Ayurvedic College in Pune, who married again and let his elder brother molest his second wife, was suspended from the college after the incident was highlighted by The Asian Age.
The lecturer, Sachin Deshpande, has been suspended from Tilak Ayurvedic College and complainant Dr Mamta Deshpande would be given protection during her studies, said Dr Vijay Doiphode, president of Rashtriya Shikshan Mandal, which runs Tilak College.
It may be recalled that the second wife, Dr Mamta, tried to register an FIR in Guhagar in the Ratnagiri district, but the police, influenced by Deshpande, said it was a family matter and asked them to settle it amongst themselves.
“For nearly two months I was unable to file an FIR in Pune because Sachin Deshpande has influence. In fact, he filed false cases against us to harass us. On June 5, I lodged a complaint in Sarkarwada police station in Nashik. Sachin was arrested on June 21 and remanded to police custody on June 22. The custody was extended twice till June 27 and he was remanded to judicial custody on June 27,” Dr Mamta told The Asian Age. She further claimed that he was married to one Dr Tabassum Gaffur Nalbandh in 2003 and divorced her after a settlement of `7 lakh in 2013.
